Regarding the proposed charge for the collection of garden waste, I’d like to make a suggestion.

Several years ago, when the green bins were first handed out, they were designed to handle food waste, garden waste and shredded paper. This soon changed as some regulation banned recycling the cabbage leaves and tea bags, the shredded paper content meant that the compost produced would be hard pressed to sustain even a weed and, no-one was prepared to buy the compost anyway (would you pay to buy back your own rubbish?) Being left with a compostable amount that roughly came to one carrier bag of grass cuttings per month, I asked that they came and collected their bin.

Several weeks passed and I recontacted the council and informed them that this virtually unusable green ornament would be put into private storage and the bill sent to them if not collected within a week. Prompt collection ensued.

The point being, if you don’t agree with the proposed charge and/or reduced collection, get the council to come and pick their bin up. I’d love to know what it would cost to collect and store several thousand unwanted green bins.
