I moved to Bradford three years ago from Tewkesbury. I live in sheltered accommodation and I absolutely love it here.

But one thing causes me great concern – town bridge, built 100 years ago, is not fit for life in the 21st century.

Now I understand that £1.5m is up for grabs, earmarked for the enhancement of the centre of our pretty little town. How on earth are 25 vaguely marked pedestrian crossings and the eradication of most double yellow road lines going to enhance anything?

Let reason prevail here – if that amount of cash is around, for heaven’s sake let us take it and build a simple pedestrian walk alongside our river bridge. Please, please let’s do it before somebody is killed stepping off the pavement to let a mother with a big pushchair pass or, even more dangerously, a pensioner on an electric buggy.

Our pretty old bridge is an asset, but no-one is safe and before long there will be a serious accident.
