Many thanks to the residents of Wiltshire who signed our petition to save the Bath RUH Hopper service. This was a fine example of people power; without the support of our community it’s clear Wiltshire Council would have pressed on and axed this vital service.

But with the support of the community, Wiltshire Council has been forced to look elsewhere and we now have funding until April 1 next year. Congratulations to Wiltshire Council who listened to the thousands of residents who signed our petition.

However it’s vital that we don’t take our eye off the ball. Already the council is drawing up plans to axe dozens of bus services next year, and they have the backing of all our local MPs in doing so.

I fear that next year we may have our backs to the wall, and fighting to save our Hopper service, let’s hope I’m wrong.

Councillor Terry Chivers, Melksham Without North, Eden Grove, Whitley, Melksham.
