No sooner does the A36 reopen than commuters are made to suffer yet again with hold-ups on our roads. Just recently traffic lights outside the Barge Inn on Frome Road caused long delays, not helped in my opinion by 25-30 cars being allowed through at each change. I know because sitting in the queue I counted them.

As I write there are three-way traffic lights at the junction of Frome Road, Junction Road and Pound Lane. This is not the first time this year that Wessex Water have dug up this section of road.

I appreciate that roadworks have to be carried out but am annoyed that nothing is done to help the frustrated motorist. In both these cases four signs would have sufficed. Firstly, an “Alternative Route for Frome” placed at the junction of Frome Road and St Margaret’s Street with a similar one at Moulton Drive (for Sainsbury’s) and vice versa for Bradford on Avon. This, I believe, would help the traffic flow.

Then, what do I know, the hierarchy of the highways department should climb down from their ivory tower and find out what the people on the street want.
