I thought Alison Phillips’ recent column on Wiltshire Council’s poorly thought out plan to close recycling centres on different days, wheelie bin collection etc was spot on. However, it looks as though some people have decided to rebel against the closures and taken matters into their own hands. When I drove past the Trowbridge Recycling Centre yesterday afternoon (Thursday – when it was closed) there was a large blue settee on the pavement just outside the gates. Is this the thin end of the wedge with people fly-tipping on nearby pavements and verges if they cannot access the recycling centre?
I note that there was a letter in last week’s Wiltshire Times from someone who tried repeatedly to get rid of their rubbish and was unable to do so because of the long queues of vehicles at the recycling centre they were trying to use (Melksham).
Many of the vehicles were not even going to the centre but were simply unable to get past because of the queues. I noticed a similar situation at Trowbridge at 9.55am one morning this week when cars were waiting for the centre to open and blocking Canal Road.
