PLEASE may I use the columns of your newspaper to expose the thoughtless actions of some car drivers?

Some drivers have no thought but for themselves. The picture shows quite clearly how at least one driver with no consideration for others has parked on the pavement. However, worse than that, the car is placed to completely block the dropped kerb. Worse still, it blocks the tactile pavement intended to help vision impaired persons tell them where it is safe to cross. Even worse still, this incident occurred adjacent to a pedestrian refuge, designed to show someone with impaired vision how to navigate safely from one side of the road to the centre. Unfortunately, on reaching the opposite side, there is no dropped kerb to be found or a tactile pavement to indicate safe access. Only a car completely blocking the route off the road!

Today I witnessed a young mother with a baby buggy and toddler in tow having to climb over the kerb to reach the safety of the pavement. How much easier it would have been had the mother been able to reach the dropped kerb? How completely thoughtless of the driver to prevent her doing so.

The installation of tactile pads, dropped kerbs and a refuge costs the council around £5,500 per crossing. The actions of some motorists make this a total waste of money.
