THOSE of your readers who follow Facebook or other similar social media may be aware of a report from Tory MPs that Sunday schools could be banned from teaching children that marriage should be between a man and a woman, under plans to force them to undergo regular Ofsted inspections.

This would not just affect Sundays schools but church youth groups and Scout groups, for signs that children are being "radicalised." Even Holiday Bible Clubs might well be included.

These reports are coming from not just the tabloid papers, and warn that the government is going down a very dangerous path. We are a Christian country, built on the solid foundations of Bible teaching, going back many centuries, and whilst we respect people of other faiths, and welcome them as part of our community, it is essential that we as a nation remember this important principle..

The Christian Institute, a renowned national body who are constantly fighting against religious intolerances, are aware of this. Also the Evangelical Alliance (an umbrella group representing two million practising British Christians) have said it risked the "wholesale nationalisation of youth work and the indirect state regulation of private religious practice".

Locally also we must be aware of this, and it is for all Christians or otherwise who feel strongly to take action as appropriate to safeguard the freedom of our beloved land.
