IN HIS letter last week AP Milroy realistically outlines the dangers to Britain of a vote to leave the EU. However there is another danger that I only became aware of from a letter in the Wiltshire Times the week before, danger from the extremism of some of the people who want to leave Europe.

Patricia A. Bryant, UKIP candidate, wrote to say that the tide in Europe is turning in favour of anti-EU parties such as Alternative für Deutschland, which she says is a party like UKIP. It’s true there are anti-EU parties in other European countries. They typically get about 5 per cent of the vote and are based on extremist and racist views. Alternative für Deutschland has recently called for migrants trying to cross Germany’s borders to be shot and for mosques to be closed.

I’m genuinely shocked that UKIP likens itself to a party that wants to shoot innocent people on sight and ban the religion of the huge majority of Muslims who are law-abiding and peaceful citizens. Perhaps this doesn’t even reflect the views of everyone in UKIP. However if the referendum were to give more power to this racist element we would find ourselves not just outside Europe but outside civilisation.

People like Patricia A. Bryant are sure to vote, but there is a real risk that some people who actually want to remain in Europe will not go to the polls. So if you don’t think the same way as Alternative für Deutschland, UKIP, and the others it’s vitally important that you go out on June 23 and vote to remain in Europe.
