I WAS recently admitted to the Royal United Hospital, Philip Yeoman Ward, for hip surgery. I arrived in a very anxious state having had an horrendous experience during previous surgery some 22 years ago.
From the moment I arrived I was put at ease with the kindness and courtesy given to me and I can only praise the treatment I received from start to finish, from my surgeon Mr Burwell, to the kind porter who wheeled me to theatre and most especially to the nursing staff who were, indeed, angels.
I would like to add that although I have sympathy with the junior doctors and their current grievances, the nurses are mostly at the “sharp end” and without their dedication to the patients, the NHS really would be in trouble.
My heartfelt thanks to Mr Burwell and his dedicated team on the Philip Yeoman Ward.
