DO we really care about people who need a home?
There are tens of thousands of people in Wiltshire that need social housing, either to buy or to rent. The number of people needing a home constitutes a disaster which Trowbridge people should recognise and give support to.
Wiltshire Council offers no answers. Their housing plans will not even scratch the surface of the problem. The council’s expertise seems limited to cutting budgets without consideration of the effect that the cuts have.
Trowbridge people are made of better stuff so don’t let us be NIMBYs who selfishly resist new homes being built.
We as Trowbridge people should bond together as a real community and put all the pressure on Wiltshire Council that we can, to insist that they help these people.
A home to live in is a basic human right and overcrowded, low-quality, private rented properties should be the cause of shame for any civilised society.
If you think that you can’t make any difference you are wrong. Firstly, try to welcome new social housing projects, and secondly take the time to pressure your local councillors to force Wiltshire Council to build the homes that are needed.
Visit their surgeries, phone them, write to them or email them but don’t do nothing.
Young people are totally disregarded by this government who give them no chance of a start in life. We should all be aware of how traumatic not having a home can be.
