Friday June 27, 8pm, Ustinov @ Theatre Royal Bath.

Two Friends Productions return to the Ustinov with a new play about the life of Nell Gwyn, the most popular mistress of Charles II.

The revelatory Pretty Witty Nell comes to the Ustinov as part of a national tour, following great success at last year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

With the king on his death bed and creditors knocking on the door, Nell recalls her radiant life. Born in the gutters of Covent Garden, by sheer force of wit and charm she became the most glittering actress and one of the best-loved characters of her day, surviving the plague and the Great Fire of London, before finally succumbing to the pox.

Loved by aristocracy and the public alike - Pepys adored her, Dryden wrote plays for her and the people were entranced by her. Nell's relationship with King Charles lasted for 18 turbulent years.
