Quinton Barham, the Trowbridge teenager who collapsed during a youth football game last weekend, has undergone a heart bypass operation.
The 13-year-old Clarendon Academy pupil has been in a stable but critical condition at Bristol Royal Infirmary since collapsing playing for Bradford Town Youth during a Mid Wilts Youth League under 14 cup game at Bromham on Sunday.
The youngster underwent a brain scan yesterday which came back negative, a positive sign for his family who have kept a bedside vigil throughout the week, and doctors decided to carry out the operation today.
Father Paul Barham, 48, of Hyde Road, Trowbridge, said: "The heart bypass was a success. He is still being kept under intensive care but the doctors said the operation went really well.
"It will take him a couple of days to recover, when doctors will try and wake him up."
