Wiltshire-based actor Clive Mantle has had part of his ear bitten off in Newcastle.
Clive Mantle, who lives in Box, was attacked at the Travelodge in Foster Street in the early hours of Sunday, according to his agent.
The 55-year-old, star of Casualty and more recently Game of Thrones, is performing in The Ladykillers at the Newcastle Theatre Royal.
He will miss the next week's worth of shows, which will take place in Salford. A spokesman for The Ladykillers' production company Fiery Angel, said: "Clive will not be performing in Salford tomorrow. He will most likely miss the whole of this week, then we will reassess the situation early next week."
His role will be filled by understudy Marcus Taylor.
A 32-year-old man from Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, has been charged with wounding with intent and will appear before magistrates next month.
Another man has been released on bail and a third man released without charge.
