The golden postbox in Bradford on Avon is being repainted gold this week as part of Royal Mail’s nationwide project to strip back and repaint all 100 of its Olympic monuments in the United Kingdom.
The contractors from Bell Group UK had to use two undercoats before applying three coats of gold paint to the box, in recognition of Ed McKeever's kayak gold at last year's Olympics, in The Shambles.
Some residents feared it may be returning to its traditional red, but Sue Moffet, who was working in the town when she heard the workmen, said: “I was relieved they were keeping it gold because it is a tourist attraction and part of Bradford on Avon.”
