The Amber Foundation who support homeless and disadvantaged young people from across the region has been selected as an official charity partner of the 2014 Ryder Cup.

Golfer Paul McGinley is the captain of the European team and has picked the charity, which has residential lodgings in Trowbridge, as one of the beneficiaries of The McGinley Foundation.

Amber, CLIC Sargent, The Society of St Vincent de Paul and the Tour Players Foundation are the four good causes which will be supported through a series of fundraisers as part of next year’s competition which will see Europe lead the defence of their title against the American team at Gleneagles golf course, in September.

“These four causes are very important to me for a number of reasons and I am delighted to be able to support them and the vital work they do,” said Mr McGinley.

“I have been aware of the work that Amber does for around 15 years now, and having seen the amazing difference they make to the lives of disadvantaged young people via their residential homes, I wanted to help them in any way I could.”

The residential centre, in Bythesea Road, offers refuge to young people and helps by providing training which gives them essential skills for future employment.

Sue Crawford-Condie, Amber’s PR and fundraising director, said: “We are thrilled to be supported by the Ryder Cup captain’s charitable foundation and so grateful to Paul and the foundation’s trustees for choosing Amber to be one of the beneficiary charities.

“It opens the door to tremendous fundraising opportunities and the exposure Amber will receive will enable the charity to reach many more unemployed homeless young people and help them to transform their lives. It is going to be an exciting year.”
