It's good to see, in figures released last week, that more and more people in Wiltshire are finding work.
In the Chippenham constituency, the number of Jobseekers has fallen by 284 – more than a fifth – in the last year, including 65 fewer young Jobseekers.
Nationally, the unemployment rate is now down to 7.6 per cent – its lowest since early 2009.
The economy is on the mend, but there is still much more to do.
One million jobs have been created since the election, and Liberal Democrats are working to help businesses create a million more, building a stronger economy in a fairer society.
An excellent education is the best way to enable everyone to get on in life, and I spent much of last week focused on ways to give every child the best start.
The Liberal Democrats in Government are introducing free school meals for all infants from next September, which pilots have shown will improve pupils' eating habits, behaviour and, crucially, their academic achievement.
Having previously discussed with the headteacher of St Mary's Primary School in Broughton Gifford the challenges of providing these meals in small rural schools, I put her concerns to the Schools Minister at Education Questions in the Commons. I urged him to make sure that small schools get the extra funding they need to provide hot, healthy lunches to all their infants and that head teachers retain the control over their catering contracts they need to establish a high standard in the provision of these meals.
Later in the week I visited Bowerhill Primary School, where I was delighted to see the effective ways they are using the Pupil Premium introduced by the Liberal Democrats in Government. They are using the money to give disadvantaged pupils extra tuition, in pairs, to stop them falling behind.
On Friday, pupils elected by children across the country took over the House of Commons for a meeting of the Youth Parliament.
It being Parliament Week, I joined children at Charter Primary School in Chippenham for lunch after answering questions from the Year Six class about Parliament and my role as an MP.
After a constituency surgery in Bradford on Avon last Saturday, my next are at Melksham Town Hall on Friday, November 29, from 3-4.30pm and at my office in Avonbridge House, Chippenham on Monday, December 9, from 10- 11.30am.
