A 41-year-old Hilperton man has been arrested following a suspected arson attack in Lacock, which saw two police officers treated for smoke inhalation.
Police were contacted by the Fire Service around 1:45am after they had received reports of a house fire in Corsham Road in the village.
Officers attended and helped two women, who were upstairs in the address, move to safety.
The women were later taken to the RUH in Bath to be checked over but did not suffer any serious injuries. Two officers were checked over and treated for smoke inhalation by ambulance staff at the scene but were fit enough to remain on duty.
Following enquiries a man was arrested at a house in Hilperton, near Trowbridge, at around 2:15am. He currently remains in custody at Melksham Police Station.
Police activity continues at the address in Lacock this morning to establish the circumstances of the fire and further house to house enquiries are being made.
