FIRE crews were called to a blaze in the kitchen of a house in Portland Road in Melksham at 4.45pm yesterday.
The fire started in a chip pan and a woman and her son were taken to hospital by ambulance due to smoke inhalation.
Two crews from Trowbridge and Melksham put out the fire by 5.30pm using a hose and breathing apparatus.
Meanwhile, fire crews were called to a fire in the bedroom of a semi-detached house in Long Close in Chippenham at 7am this morning.
No-one was injured in the fire and two crews from Chippenham managed to put out the flames by 7.50am using two hoses, breathing apparatus and pressure ventilation equipment.
