What do you like most about living in Wiltshire?

I am often scouring the area to find the ideal home, which gives me the chance to enjoy the countryside and architecture more than most. Wiltshire must have some of the most beautiful churches in the world. It's a far cry from the West End on a Monday morning.

Where would you recommend for a good evening out and why?

The Haunch Of Venison, in Salisbury. Not only great food, but a fantastic historic building. Alternatively, any rural or semi-rural pub that serves a decent pint of bitter. The Bath Arms, Crockerton or The Westbury Hotel, Westbury, deserve a mention.

Who would be your ideal dinner partner and why?

I'd find it impossible to choose between Winston Churchill, Frank Sinatra, Eric Morecambe or Mohammad Ali, but if I had to pick one person, Kylie, obviously.

Which local landmark or attraction would you recommend?

Lacock Abbey. Anyone who hasn't yet been must go. It's a fascinating place to visit at any time of the year. Let the kids know that Harry Potter was filmed there and it might be the first historic building/museum they run towards rather than away from. Follow this with a stroll around the village and lunch in one of the pubs.

What is your favourite book and why?

Shakespeare was pretty good at scribbling a few words down and I appreciate it much more now than when I was force fed it as a student. However, I would have to say The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth. It's one of the few books I've read more than once and would read again.

What is your favourite music and why?

Frank Sinatra, who else? I was lucky enough to see him in concert with Sammy Davis Jnr when I was a teenager. Nothing can compare with him although Stereophonics, Reef and Keane seem to know what they're doing.

How do you relax?

I drag myself into the gym three times a week which helps. Watching old comedies like Fawlty Towers, Porridge and Laurel and Hardy seems to work and lying by a pool in Portugal is pretty good. Probably the best thing is a meal and a decent bottle of wine with friends and family.

What keeps you awake at night?

Occasionally work and whether Arsenal should play 4-4-2 or five across the midfield. Occasionally the traffic through Westbury. Perhaps somebody ought to think about putting in a bypass.

If you were stranded on a desert island what three things would you take?

Writing materials for the book I always promised myself I'd write, a hammock and either Ray Mears, the bushcraft guy, or Kylie, obviously.
