CARETAKER manager Adie Mings is expecting a tough test tomorrow when the Bluebirds cross the Severn Bridge to face Merthyr Tydfil.

Chippenham travel to South Wales on the back of a convincing victory over Hitchin Town last Saturday, and although Mings knows it will be difficult he believes his side can come back to England with three points in the bag.

He said: "Merthyr Tydfil is a very hostile place to go to and play football and any team that does come away from there with a win will have done very well to get it.

"They were top of the table for a while at the start of the season and they have a great strike force.

"I would like to think the win last weekend though has renewed confidence after four defeats, which hopefully we can build on.

"But I am being careful because we have been in this position before where we've won one game and then not performed in the next."

Striker Alan Griffin, who is still recovering from concussion after suffering a head injury in last Tuesday's defeat against Banbury, and Alex Stanley, who has a problem with his knee, are both major doubts but Mings should have the rest of his squad available.

"What we need to do is start eradicating our inconsistency and we are looking at this game and the next as ones where we can get back-to-back wins and then go on a decent run," said Mings.

On Tuesday evening Chippenham play Swindon Supermarine in the second leg of the Wiltshire Premier Shield.

The Bluebirds are 3-2 down on aggregate after losing the first leg at Hardenhuish Park in December, so they start the game in Swindon a goal down before the ball is kicked.

However, Mings is hopeful of getting a result and believes his side can progress to the next round.
