CHIPPENHAM Town manager Darren Perrin remains suspended on full pay after the club's board delayed making a decision on his future.

At a meeting on Wednesday it was expected the directors would sack him, but it is believed the decision has been postponed so legal advice over a compensation package can be taken.

In a short statement, issued on Wednesday night by Chippenham secretary Chris Blake, the club said: "The full board met at 4.30 this afternoon. Adie Mings has been asked to continue in his role as caretaker manager.

"Darren Perrin remains at this time suspended on full pay."

Perrin was suspended last Wednesday after Chippenham's run of four straight defeats culminating in a 5-0 hammering by Banbury Town.

The pressure had been mounting on him for a number of weeks and he has been criticised by some of the Chippenham supporters for his team selection and transfer policy.

Adam Garner, who Perrin described as the "best defender in the Southern League" was allowed to leave the club, leaving Chippenham with a makeshift defence.

In his last three matches in charge the Bluebirds conceded 11 goals and found the back of the net only twice themselves.

Assistant manager Adie Mings took charge of the team on Saturday and led them to their first victory of 2007 with a 3-0 victory over Hitchin Town at Hardenhuish Park.

He will continue as caretaker manager for tomorrow's trip to Merthyr Tydfil and Tuesday's second leg of the Wiltshire Premier Shield against Swindon Supermarine.

If, as expected, Perrin does get the sack, another north Wiltshire manager has been spoken about as a possible replacement.

Corsham boss Colin Bush, who is still a popular figure at Hardenhuish Park, where he was assistant manager during the club's run to the FA Vase final at Wembley in 2000, declined to comment on the speculation linking him with a return to Chippenham Town.

Speaking to the Wiltshire Times and Chippenham News he said: "I've nothing to say on that because Darren is still employed by the club.

"Like everyone I'm watching what is happening with interest but I'm just thinking about Corsham and I'm fully focused on my job here."

Adie Mings also played down rumours linking him to the manager's position full time.

He said: "I've been told I'll be in charge for the games on Saturday and Tuesday and I've not thought about anything past that.

"What I'm interested in doing is just getting some confidence into the side and getting a couple of wins out of our next two games, which will help us push for a place in the play-offs and that is still our aim.

"We are not thinking about what is happening off the pitch, we're just concentrating on the football and trying to get some positive results on the pitch."
