A COMPETITION is being launched for young people to select the contents of a time capsule to be buried at Wiltshire's new history HQ.

The challenge will be launched at a ceremony on Monday to celebrate the official handover of the keys for the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, due to open in Cocklebury Road, Chippenham in October, to council chiefs by contractor Cowlin Construction.

The ceremony will herald the next phase in the £11.6m project to protect a valuable treasure trove of local archives for future generations.

The competition will call on local school pupils for their top suggestions for the 10 items they most feel most reflect life in Wiltshire.

The winning entries will then be placed in a casket which will take pride of place within the new archive.

To help inspire young people the archivists will also unveil at the ceremony their own "top ten" archives from the extensive collection, which covers 800 years of Wiltshire history.
