Melksham is now home to Wiltshire’s first Shed Club following its grand launch last week.
The Shed has opened in Lancaster Road in Bowerhill but will move to the Forest Community Centre in Bowmans Court by the end of the month.
The group was first established earlier this year and has been looking for a permanent home since.
The idea of Men’s Shed Clubs comes from Australia, and is fast becoming popular across the UK. Similar clubs across the country offer activities such as woodwork, furniture repairs and gardening.
Melksham’s club is not just for men, though. There has been interest from women and they are welcome to join.
Chris Pickett from the group said: “The launch was very successful. A lot of people came to see what the shed was about.
“We are determined this will become a source of real pride to Melksham.”
The community-based workshop is available to both retired and unemployed people, and members can exchange skills as well as develop their own existing skills for future employment.
The group hopes to be up and running in its new location by the end of the month.
