Felix Harris, who brought Scouting to his home village of Urchfont and was an active member of the local troop for 70 years, died last week aged 89.

In 1946 he joined Devizes Rover Scouts and became assistant Scout leader at Market Lavington. Urchfont Scout troop had closed during the war, and in 1959 Mr Harris relaunched it alongside a Cub pack run by his wife Phyllis.

In 1976 he became District Commissioner for Mid-Wilts Scouts and was awarded the Silver Acorn and Scouting's highest award, the Silver Wolf.

He was a church sidesman at St Michael's Church from 1938 to 1979 and a churchwarden from 1979 to 1992. He served on the parochial church council for over 40 years. He served on Urchfont Parish Council, was a governor of Urchfont Primary School between 1957 and 1987 and was a member of the village hall committee.

He married Phyllis in 1948. The couple had two sons, Richard and Gerald, and four grandchildren.

His funeral was held at St Michael and All Angels Church, Urchfont, yesterday.
