I am writing to you in response to your article "Melksham councillor let down by decision to cancel early bus" dated Thursday, August 6.

In your article Councillor Jon Hubbard wrote about his disappointment that First intend to cut early morning services to and from Bowerhill. It appears that Cllr Hubbard may have made a mistake in that the journeys he references will, in fact, continue to serve Bowerhill.

From August 23, the 6.03am and 6.55am Monday-Friday and the 6.22am and 7.21am Saturday 272 journeys from Bath-Bowerhill will start from Melksham Market Place at 6.48am and 7.41am Monday-Friday and 7.07am and 8.07am on Saturdays. They will then operate the current route from Melksham Market Place-Bowerhill via Melksham Station.

The reason we are removing these journeys from Bath-Melksham is that the 271 & 272 will now be looked after by our team in Westbury.

Those passengers wishing to travel to or from Melksham Station and Bowerhill will retain their early morning journeys. Some times throughout the rest of the day may be altered to improve punctuality and reliability on the route.

James Freeman, Managing director of First West of England.
