A WESTBURY couple are encouraging people of all ages and experience to keep dancing and take part in a new Saturday evening tea dance session.

Mike Dale and his wife Angela currently run a dance session every Tuesday afternoon at the Westbury Leigh Church community hall but are looking to expand and accommodate more people.

The 71-year-old said: “We’ve decided to do a session on Saturday to boost numbers and want to make people aware of it.

“When we started about a year ago we only had five people but now we get anywhere up to 25 and we’ve got quite a wide range of people and abilities, from people who are very experienced dancers to those starting off.

“We do ballroom and Latin American dancing but we also do sequence dancing as well which keeps the moves simple as it is the same moves every 16 bars.”

Running from 2pm-4.30pm every Tuesday, the sessions, which cost £3.50, include a break in the middle for homemade cake and tea.

And although Mr Dale and his wife only plan to hold a Saturday session once a month, they are looking to hold more if numbers increase.

“I think dancing covers a number of things, it gives people who have very little to do something to be active about and it gets people together,” added Mr Dale.

“There’s definitely an interest in dancing probably because of programmes like Strictly Come Dancing.

“We have only decided to do the Saturday sessions every so often on dates when we know there are no other dances in the area so people don’t have to choose.

“If it gets busier we will consider doing more.”
