A MELKSHAM mum and her daughter are still living in a mould-filled housing association home, a year after doctors told her it was an unfit place for them to stay.

Carly Burgess, 20, believes the health of her 14-month-old daughter, Perri-Louise Woodward, is being put in jeopardy by the situation and she claims Stonewater Housing Association is dragging its feet about fixing the problem.

Ms Burgess’s flat in Hurricane Road, Bowerhill was cleared of mould in March last year, but it returned in November. She is also worried that a fault in her heating is endangering her daughter’s health.

Ms Burgess said: “It all started off over a year ago. I was pregnant and the mould just started up.

“When I had my daughter the consultants said that I was not allowed to go back. My daughter could only come home with me when I told them I was going to my mum's.

“I contacted them in September 2014 but they did not come until March and in the end it only took them around four or five hours.

“The men who did the work told me that the mould would come back in a year but it started up again in November.

“It is appalling, truly disgusting. It is in my daughter’s bedroom, it is all over the furniture and I am worried that it is going to go on her clothes.

“It is freezing cold. I am very nervous about her living here. When I picked her up yesterday she was just freezing.

“She has had a cough for a week now, but she has had other coughs. They seem to come and go. Sometimes her cough can be really bad.”

A spokesman for Stonewater said: “We apologise for the delay in responding to our resident’s recent concern. Following a call in October 2015, we arranged a contractor to check that the heating was working correctly, and have since arranged another visit for Thursday (January 14) to carry out an inspection for damp and mould, which has been reported by our resident.”
