WESTBURY mayor Cllr Stephen Andrews held the annual Civic Service on Sunday (January 29) at a busy All Saints Church.

The service was conducted by the Rev Rhona Floate and was attended by dignitaries from across Wiltshire including the chairman of Wiltshire Council, Cllr Richard Britton and the deputy lord lieutenant of Wiltshire, Helen Birchenough.

Mayors and deputy mayors from other towns in the area and the archdeacon Alan Jeans also joined in with the celebrations.

The church was well attended with over 150 people with representatives from local churches each reading a prayer and the service was supported by Westbury Choral Society and All Saints Church Choir.

Westbury mayor Cllr Stephen Andrews said: “It was a great day despite the rain.

“The Civic Service is all about bringing the civic side of the town and local churches together to celebrate the town and its people.

“Not only that but it brings everyone in the community together because people of all backgrounds and religions are welcome along.

“I’m glad that Cllr David Bradshaw decided to bring the service back when he was mayor last year and I would like to thank everyone for their support and hard work in making this event a very special and memorable day.”

Students from Matravers School and the ATC 68 Squadron Air Cadets also supported the service.

A collection was made in support of the mayor’s charities, Carer Support Wiltshire and The Welfare of the Elderly, during the service.

Following the service, everyone was welcome back to The Laverton for refreshments.
