YOUR report on Hilperton, ‘A rich weaving heritage down your street,’ was certainly interesting, but there were some serious omissions.
For example Hilperton Marsh, an important and integral part of the village, was barely mentioned, compared with the more modern area of Paxcroft Mead.
There are many lanes leading off of Horse Road and Marsh Road with a delightful mix of modern houses and period cottages, some of which go back over 200 years.
Also we have St Mary Magdalene Church (still affectionately known as the Tin Church) which is also the centre for many community activities. Not to forget the Kennet and Avon Canal with the prestigious Hilperton Marina.
Many of us still have mixed feelings over Elizabeth Way, although undoubtedly this has brought tremendous benefits to the village, but driving down the road you now have a hitherto largely unseen panoramic view of open countryside, with Hilperton Marsh at the bottom of the hill, stretching away towards the canal and Staverton.
We have lived in Horse Road for nearly 30 years and Hilperton is indeed our village but I felt I must put the record straight and make sure we are still on the map.
