ONE of the pizza delivery drivers for Papa John’s on the Cradle Bridge Retail Park in Trowbridge has incurred parking charge notices worth nearly £4,000.

Franchise owner Waleed Intiaz said the driver, who has just left his company, had received a sheaf of notices between July and November 30 despite being told he would be exempt.

Mr Intiaz claims the parking operator, Birmingham-based Smart Parking Ltd, is “ignoring” his attempts to resolve the situation.

“He was getting 30 to 40 tickets a week and now they are trying to take court action against him.

“I have telephoned them and emailed all the information to them several times but have had no response, no reply, nothing.”

He said some of his 17 restaurant staff and delivery drivers have been hit by the parking system at the £10 million retail development.

“It’s also affected my trade. We are having to deliver more pizzas because a lot of our customers are still confused about the parking situation.”

The parking rules were changed in October to give shoppers the first three hours’ parking free

without having to register their vehicle or display a ticket.

The move follows complaints from scores of shoppers who have received parking charge notices demanding £80 within 28 days or £48 if paid within 14 days.

Smart Parking confirmed this week that signage on the car park, which has been causing confusion, is being changed to make it clearer to shoppers what they have to do.

The company said: “Smart Parking was brought into manage the Cradle Bridge car park to stop parking abuse and ensure genuine shoppers can always find places to park.

“Most motorists who use the car park do so without any issues.

“However, the car park is private land and we would remind all motorists that when parking on private land they should always read the terms and conditions of use before deciding to park.”
