AN OLD Trowbridge Almshouse that dates back to the 17th century has been lovingly restored so that elderly people can live there.

Number 3 Yerbury Street was bought by the Trowbridge Almshouses Trust in 2017, completely refurbished and is now ready for occupation by a couple or single person that is over 60 and is living in Trowbridge or Hilperton.

And after £20,000 in renovation work, trustees and mayor Deborah Halik cut the ribbon to unveil the place.

“We are so pleased that this place has been lovingly restored and can help out someone in need,” said Cllr Glyn Bridges.

“Jackie Martin, our outgoing clerk, has been fantastic in making this possible. It looks superb.”

An almhouse is charitable housing provided to help people over 60, who can no longer work to earn enough to pay rent, to live in a particular community.
