TROWBRIDGE councillors gleefully accepted their nominations to become the county town’s mayor and deputy mayor on Tuesday.
In his first year on the council, independent Cllr Dennis Drewett, who represents Park ward, served as deputy mayor and at the town council’s annual meeting, he replaced Cllr Deborah Halik as mayor to start his second year of service.
“I want to thank Deborah for her work over the last year and I hope to live up to what she achieved,” he said.
“This is a real honour to be elected by my fellow councillors. I want to continue to try and rejuvenate the town centre, protect our local environment and encourage others to do the same and to give something back to the community.”
Tory Cllr David Cavill, of Paxcroft ward, edged out Cllr Stewart Palmen for the deputy mayor role.
“This is a real honour and a privilege to try and serve Trowbridge to the best of my ability,” he said.
“The council does a lot of excellent work and I hope that will continue in the year ahead.”
Cllr Drewett has yet to choose his Mayoral charity.
