THE Trowbridge Textile and Weaving Festival was launched on Saturday.

Trowbridge Museum held a day of textile-based activities, weaving demonstrations and re-enacted life in a Victorian mill.

As part of the festival there are also displays in the museum and NB Gallery, in Church Walk, of modern textile art.

Museum curator Clare Lyall said: "The idea of the festival is to raise the profile of Trowbridge's textile heritage and celebrate the fact there are still a lot of contemporary textiles.

"We had more than 160 people visiting the museum on Saturday and they were asking lots of questions. People were very interested in the exhibition and had no idea there was such a range of talent relating to textile work."

Walks have been arranged from Trowbridge Tourist Information Centre to explore the town's rich textile history. Walks take place tomorrow at 10.30am, Sunday at 2.30pm and next Thursday at 2pm.

There are also textile related children's activities in the museum and a demonstration of the Dobcross Loom on Tuesday at 7pm.

The festival runs until October 31. For more information visit www.trowbridgemuseum.co.uk
