TWO men have been arrested and are in custody todayafter a report of attempted burglary in Trowbridge in the early hours of this morning.

A resident in Blair Road phoned police at 2am today after being woken by his interactive camera and doorbell.

It alerted him to two men walking up his driveway and trying his front door handle in the middle of the night.

The door was locked, so entry was not gained and nothing stolen, but the homeowner phoned police on the non-emergency 101 number.

Detective Sargeant Anthony King, from the Community Tasking Team, said: “The homeowner did exactly the right thing.

“Many people would have perhaps thought there was no point reporting this incident, as the offenders did not manage to gain entry, but thanks to his report and CCTV image, we have managed to make two very quick arrests.

“We know that burglary is of great concern to the public and it is examples like this one which show the action we can take when incidents are reported to police.”

He added: “This also highlights the importance of making sure your home is secure, particularly making sure all windows and doors are locked when you either go out or go to bed.”

Two men, aged 18 and 19, and both from Trowbridge, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and are in custody at Melksham Police Station.
