TROWBRIDGE Lions Club have donated 52 food boxes to help feed people in need over the Christmas and New Year period.

The boxes - which each contain 24 items - were handed over to the Trowbridge Foodbank on Friday, December 14.

They contain a total of 1,248 items donated by Lions Club members, friends, relatives and the general public.

Many items were donated by Tesco superstore customers and Nutricia on the White Horse business park who supported the collection.

Chris Neighbour, the Trowbridge Foodbank manager, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to receive them.

“There are so many people who are going to benefit from these donations over the next week or so.”

The Lions’ fundraising officer, Phil Hamlen, who organised the donations, said: “We are over the moon with the number of items donated. It’s the first time we have done this and we’ll definitely be doing it again next year.”
