BATHAMPTON Morris Men have raised a record-breaking sum of £520 from their pre-Christmas mummer's tour of Bradford on Avon.

The tour of 14 of the town’s pubs, social clubs and restaurants on Thursday December 20 raised a collection of £519.87.

Spokesman John Laver said: “It was a very enjoyable evening and it's great to be able to raise a sizeable amount of money for a good cause and have fun while doing so!”

The collection has been augmented by a £50 donation from Steven Archer.

Mr Laver added: “When he left his post as Treasurer of the Morris Ring, he made a donation to sides to pay their Morris Ring subscription for the year.

“Ours was already paid so he agreed that we add it to our mumming collection instead.

“That resulted in the splendid total of £570 being donated to the Royal United Hospital Cancer Centre, which has cared for one or two of our men over the past year.”
