CUSTOMERS queued before 10am for the grand opening of the latest business to open up in Trowbridge town centre.

The world’s oldest Cornish pasty maker, Warrens Bakery, has opened a new flagship store for Wiltshire in Fore Street.

Franchisee Julie Kerby said the shop, which employs eight staff, would offer a ‘cafe style’ service to customers, adding: “It’s brilliant. It’s a bigger store than the one we opened in Melksham last November and there’s room for administration above.”

Trowbridge Mayor, Cllr Dennis Drewett, who cut a ribbon to open the store, later tried one of its traditional Cornish pasties and gave it his approval.

“We’re hoping it will act as a catalyst to encourage more local entrepreneurs to come back into the town centre,” he said.

Mrs Kerby hopes to open six stores in Wiltshire and is already looking for suitable premises in Devizes, Bradford on Avon and Marlborough.
