VOLUNTEERS in Staverton helped tidy the village on Sunday as part of their annual spring clean-up.
The litter pickers collected a car-load of rubbish that had been left throughout the village by litter louts.
The rubbish included bottles and cans, discarded crisp packets, plastic bottles and lots of deflated footballs.
Cllr Trevor Carbin, the local Wiltshire Council unitary ward member, said: “We had about 20 volunteers taking part, plus half a dozen children.
“We managed to clean up the whole village, including the canal towpath, the main road and some of the residential and public areas.
“The amount of litter seems to be reducing. We ended up with a car-full of rubbish.
“We actually found less than in previous years, when we used to collect a truck-load.”
The autumn litter pick will be held on Sunday, October 6 and residents are welcome to take part.
