SPRING cleans for town centres across the county will be given a boost to the sum of £86,956 from Central Government. Wiltshire has been given the cash from a pot of £9.75m as a one off spend to pay for litter pickers, high visibility vests, brushes and shovels for community litter picks.

Communities Secretary James Brokenshire MP said: "High streets are at the centre of our communities and as places that are well loved, they sometimes need a bit of a spruce up to look their very best."

Wiltshire Council will also collect rubbish picked by the organised events, being carried out by town and parish council in March and April.

Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean campaign runs from 22 March to 23 April.

Two days of scheduled enhanced cleaning will take place in Chippenham, Devizes and Salisbury as part of the Street Cleansing Contract.

Groups are being encouraged to take pictures and share their clean with Wiltshire Council to show how the equipment was used.
