A team of knitters from the Seymour Community Hub in Trowbridge have clicked their needles to help charities at home and abroad.

The elderly group, whose ages range from 66 to nearly 90, have been busy knitting jumpers and blankets from wool bought and donated.

Led by Joan Perritt, the knitting group are donating the blankets to mothers of new-born babies delivered at Salisbury District Hospital.

The jumpers are being sent to the Mission International charity, for distribution to third world countries such as Rwanda, Uganda and Haiti.

Mrs Perritt said: “In the first year, we knitted vests for people in countries overseas.

“Now, we’re knitting the blankets for mums with new babies born at the Salisbury hospital, and the jumpers for Mission International.

“Our next project will be Baby Bundles for this country. We use wool that is being donated or is bought by our group members. We move to new projects all the time so we don’t get bored.”

The group was formed seven years ago in 2012 and began knitting for the Operation Christmas Child boxes for the Samaritans Purse charity.

Members meet once a week from 10am to 1pm every Thursday at the Seymour Community Hub in Seymour Road, Trowbridge.

New members are more than welcome to join. If you don’t know how to knit, the members will show you. To join, contact Mrs Joan Perritt, on 01225 776674.
