TWO serving soldiers have walked an epic 111 miles to the Rock of Gibraltar and have raised more than £5,200 for the armed forces charity SAAFA to help homeless veterans.
Craig Dignam and his nephew Danny O’Connor trekked all the way from Torrox Costa on the Costa del Sol in Spain to the top of the rock, arriving on Easter Saturday at 4pm.
Warrant Officer Craig, 53, said: “We did it. It has just been fantastic.
“Danny and I just did the walk. The real heroes are all the people who donated.
“We could not actually have dreamed of raising this much money three months ago and with still a few donations to come in. We are overwhelmed by the generosity.”
WO Dignam serves as a Adjutant with the General Corps, Defence Infrastructure Organisation, in Tidworth and Warminster in Wiltshire and Andover in Hampshire.
Corporal Danny, 28, serves with the Royal Logistics Corps at South Cerney in Gloucestershire.
They started their Walk to the Rock charity trek on April 17.
The pair were supported by Craig’s wife Nicky and Danny’s wife Katie. To donate, go to https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/craig-dignam3
