A Southwick parish councillor has called for drivers to slow down on the A361 after three people were lucky to escape serious injury.

A Peugeot 307 crashed through trees at the side of road on Saturday April 27with such force the engine was ripped out of the vehicle.

Two women and a man, all local, were treated for minor injuries by paramedics from the South Western Ambulance Service, which attended the accident.

The vehicle was travelling along the A361 towards Frome when the crash occurred.

It happened at a well-known accident blackspot – a right-hand bend at the entrance to the village close to the Southwick Country Park.

Parish councillor John Eaton said he believed speed was “definitely” a factor in the accident.

But despite the village having a Community Speedwatch team volunteers could not monitor the road 24 hours a day.

“It’s something that the parish council are aware of but, as yet, we have not come up with a solution. If anybody has got an idea we would be happy to here it.”

Traffic police closed the road for several hours following the accident while the vehicle was recovered.
