A BIKE enthusiast is searching for the history behind his most recent purchase which traces back to a garage in Trowbridge.

Robert Simpson bought his 1954 Velocette 350 MAC motorcycle two weeks ago and is now trying to join the dots in it's history and find the paperwork from previous sales.

Mr Simpson has so far gathered factory records from Velocette archives showing the sale to F Sleightholme and sons in Trowbridge which closed in 2004. History archives also show first record as Sleightholme.

The man who Mr Simpson bought the bike from had stored it since 1980 and lost the logbook. The bike was never registered or ridden.

Mr Simpson said: "I would like to hear if anyone is familiar with this dealer in Trowbridge.

"I would love it if someone still had old archived sales records for sold new motorcycles at the time so I could photocopy proof of first sale. I am happy to pay for the evidence.

"I have bought a genuine bike, the gentleman I bought it from lost the logbook years ago, he alway intended to use the bike one day.

"He remembers a fair bit of history about the bike, and he says its one owner previous to him, then the dealer F Sleightholme and sons Ltd.

"Until I bought it just weeks ago, its history was all in Wiltshire.

"I would like to find a contact relative of the garage."
