RESIDENTS of Warminster are being urged to ‘go batty’ on Saturday (June 1) at a family event in the Town Park.

Up to 30 people are attending a Sustainable Warminster Bats in the Park event aimed at educating and inspiring families to better protect local bat populations.

They will be joined by Wiltshire Bat Group experts for the start at the Warminster Pavilion Cafe at 7.30pm. It will kick off with a presentation by Jenny Bennett from Wiltshire Bat Group, followed by refreshments and the opportunity to meet a variety of rescued bats up close flying in a secure gazebo.

Spokeswoman Gemma Annan said: “Sustainable Warminster want local families to enjoy the wildlife sharing our town.

“By learning about bat ecology, behaviours and threats young people and their parents will be inspired to better protect their local environment and make it more bat friendly.”

At around 9pm, the group will stroll around the Town Park lake, venturing into Smallbrook Meadow. Using bat detectors and following lead from Jenny, residents will be invited to look for and listen to bats and hope to determine which species are out hunting.
