IT was celebrations all round at Wiltshire Heights care home in Bradford on Avon on Wednesday as one of their residents turned 100.

Elsie Mead was visited by friends and family some of whom had travelled from as far as America to join her on her special day.

Staff also joined in with celebrations as they all shared cake and a buffet lunch.

Mrs Mead said: “It was lovely having all my family here with me on my birthday.

“This is a day I had been looking forward to and getting a card from the queen was really exciting.”

Activities coordinator Libby Miles was responsible for arranging the party.

She said: “It is a really special occasion when one of our residents turn 100, and Elise was completely up for having a party with friends and family.

"Some people have travelled from over seas so it is nice for her to see those who she doesn't see as much as she would like to.

“Its always up to our residents, some people don’t want to mark their birthday at all, but some love a little celebration.”

Mrs Mead’s room was decorated with balloons and banners and she was treated to a manicure and session at the hairdressers before her celebrations started mid morning.

During her party, she spent time opening cards and presents from her loved ones.

Mrs Mead's son, Richard Mead who lives in the USA said: "It was so nice to be able to come and see mum for her birthday and the staff at Wiltshire Heights have put on a lovely party for her."

Mr Mead gave his mum an original copy of The Mail newspaper from the day she born as a birthday gift.
