A 16-year-old lad who is accused of taking part in a violent stabbing in Trowbridge town centre has been remanded in custody by a judge.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is one of three teenagers accused of being involved in the incident near Tesco Extra on February 13.

It is alleged two men were set upon and each stabbed in the buttocks and lower back area in an attack near County Way just after 11pm.

27-year-old Saleem Ayoub was left seriously injured, with his liver being punctured by a knife.

He was rushed to Southmead Hospital in Bristol in a critical condition with what were thought to be life-threatening injuries.

David Maunder, prosecuting, told a bail hearing at Swindon Crown Court that it was thought a piece of the vital organ had been sliced off in the alleged attack.

He said the stabbing took place just off the supermarket car park.

The second man was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath with less serious injuries.

Judge Jason Taylor QC refused the 16-year-old bail and he was remanded in custody to appear at Winchester Crown Court on July 17.

The lad, and two 17-year-olds who are also in custody, are charged with robbery, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and having bladed articles.

They have yet to enter any pleas to the allegation and the charges have not formally been put to them.
