TWO West Wiltshire MPs have confirmed they will be standing for Parliament again when the next General Election is called.

Chippenham MP Michelle Donelan and South West Wiltshire MP Dr Andrew Murrison both confirmed their intention to stand again.

The move follows the vote in Parliament on Monday night not to hold a General Election until the Brexit issue has been resolved.

But that has not prevented various political parties from starting the process of deciding who should run in the Chippenham and South West Wiltshire constituencies

MPs failed to call an early general election at Monday’s vote as 293, out of the 434 needed, voted for, 46 against and 303 abstained.

The Conservative Party hold the Chippenham constituency, represented by Miss Donelan, the recently-appointed minister for Children and Families, and the South West Wilts constituency held by Dr Murrison.

Miss Donelan has already sent out a letter to many of her constituents, explaining why she thinks she is right for the job.

Since the 2015 election, the party with the second highest number of votes in the Chippenham constituency has been the Liberal Democrats.

Their prospective parliamentary candidate will again be Helen Belcher, who represented the Lib Dems in the 2017 General Election.

The Lib Dem PPC for South West Wiltshire will be Ellen Nicholson.

The Labour party and the Green Party say they have not yet decided whether to run candidates in Chippenham and South West Wiltshire.
