FOUR 'outstanding' young people in Bradford on Avon have been presented with awards for their contribution to the local community.

The Lions Club of Bradford-on-Avon's president Brian Hersee presented the awards at a ceremony at the Cumberwell Park Golf Club on Wednesday, September 18.

The first two winners of the Gold Award were Joseph Pearce and Megan Longley, who received engraved trophies and a £100 cash prize.

The first two winners of the Silver Award were Izzy Geddes and Helen Morrison, who received engraved trophies and £50 cash prizes.

Lions spokesperson, Phil Courage said they wanted to do something to recognise and reward the contribution made by young people in the town.

This could be in any field, from community work, volunteering, caring or sporting achievement.

Representatives of the organizations which made the nominations read out their citations.

Phil Courage said: "It was a very difficult task to choose the winners as all of these young people had made such a substantial commitment to improve the lives of others.

"In the end we decided to give two Gold and two Silver Awards. It certainly gives hope for the future knowing that we have such positive young people in our community."

The Lions Club will be looking for groups to nominate young people of the town for the 2020 awards.
