Bake Off fans may be hoping that Danny Kruger, who was yesterday announced as one of those on the short list to replace Claire Perry as Conservative parliamentary candidate for Devizes, may get the chance to take over the safe Tory seat.

For Mr Kruger is the son of Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith.

Mr Kruger, the son of Prue and her late husband Rayne Kruger, who died in December 2002, aged 80 is a former speechwriter to David Cameron and key aide to Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

He is also an old Etonian, like Boris, and has previously worked for the prisons charity Only Connect which he founded and has also been a vocal supporter of legalisation of cannabis.
