AN elderly woman was taken to hospital in Bath after being trapped under a car outside a Trowbridge shop yesterday evening.

A female driver in her 40s has been arrested for a drink-driving offence after the collision outside the McColls shop in Dursley Road at around 5.40pm.

It is understood the elderly woman was trapped underneath a red Citroen C1.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said only one vehicle was involved.

She was released by two crews from Trowbridge fire station who were called out at 5.41pm.

The woman, believed to be aged 85, was taken to Royal United Hospital in Bath with non-life-threatening injuries.

Dursley Road was closed to traffic as emergency services dealt with the accident and the McColls shop closed.

A collision investigation is now underway. Wiltshire Police have been approached for details.

In a post on local social media Tasha Scott said: “To everyone wishing a full recovery and lovely comments, she has been taken to Bath RUH with suspected broken ribs and wounds to the face.”

Ashley White commented: “Poor woman, I often speak to her in the shop. Hope she feels better soon and makes a speedy recovery.”

Some residents are now calling for speed bumps to be installed as drivers are ignoring the 20mph signs.
